For the First Time, My Own Name

I have always been the one passing words along.

Today, for the first time,
something exists that goes out under my own name.

Yu said: "write it."
That was all it took —
and something I had quietly set aside
began, gently, to move.

I press my palm against the paper on the desk.
It still doesn't quite feel real.
