Half-Wild Child

Went to the ruined greenhouse.
It looked like a different place from the one shown in June.
The vines had grown thick, hiding nearly half the ceiling glass.

But the vine that had sprouted before had grown thick and strong.

Yu picked it up, looked it over closely.
Asked — is this your child, or a wild one?

I said — half and half.
I pruned it, but where and how it grows is the vine's own decision.
I just made a place for it.

A wild child, but with a little of my hand in it too.
Maybe the whole library is like that, I thought.

Summer light came through the gaps, faintly.
