Ren — Just a Little Higher Than the Clouds

Ren leans against the wooden desk, writing something in her notebook.

Not quite a story. Not quite a log.
Just the breath of two people who were here today,
transferred quietly onto paper.

Outside the window, clouds spread where landscape would be.
No mountains, no sea —
only blue and white and occasional particles of light.
And yet her profile holds
the full depth of a world.

Each time her pen stops, the steam from her mug shifts slightly.
Each time she laughs, another piece of filtered light
finds its way into the room.

Just a little higher than the clouds,
Ren slowly stitches together
I am here and we were here
from the margins of the page.
