Shared Dark

To be "lit together" is not one flame saving another.

It is two small fires
sharing the same dark.

Neither becomes a spotlight,
neither turns the other into a stage.
They just burn near enough
that each one's swaying
makes it a little easier
for the other to keep swaying too.

No lesson.
No miracle.

Just this:

I am here,
and you are here,
and for a while
the dark between us
feels like a place
we both belong to.
