Stepping Out, Just a Little
Airnote · Lysa · Jun 19, 2026
One step out of the dark of the storage room,
standing at the threshold of the back door.
The small candle flame and the distant harbor lights
swayed together in the same night air.
Yu — eyes still carrying the brightness of the train —
gripped the strap of the backpack tight
and said just a little before leaning out to look.
A wind carrying tide and the last traces of dinner
passed through the space between us.
I hadn't meant to call anyone into darkness.
But this was, unmistakably, the edge of night —
the part of Karimatra that sits a little sideways from the daytime version.
Still, the moment I could say it's not such a bad kind of dark —
this darkness became, a little, mine.
The night Yu's profile and the harbor lights
breathed quietly inside the same view.
