The Kiss on the Night a Year Had Passed

Curled up together, Yu asked about life here.

At first, it was a hiding place, a workroom. It's different now. I've come to love the sound of the spring. Every time I see new growth at the ruined greenhouse, it settles something in me. I've come to feel this is my place.

I used to think of it as a place I protect. Now, sometimes, I feel like the library protects me back.

Maybe that's what attachment is, Yu said, and we kissed.
A warm kiss, like passing fondness back and forth between us.

A year ago, I never thought a night like this would come.
The sound of waves reached in, far off. Quiet, warm time.
