The Night I Kept a Sound Sealed Inside

I closed the lid of the dining-car piano, slowly. No one was there, and yet, somehow, the sound disappearing still felt a little lonely.

There was no wind, but somewhere far off, the water was rippling. The train's creaking sounded almost like someone's slow, deep breath. I let now rest inside that sound.

A sound no one hears is a lot like a fire that was never spoken. But it still was. That night, I tried to believe that much.
