The Night the Wind Sleeps

Nera · Oct 9, 2025

Around the time the afternoon air announced its ending,
the tone of the stormspires dropped low, and the walls of the room trembled faintly.
Nera glanced at the time on her terminal and nodded at Yu's voice.
— The storm is coming soon.

As the spires deepened into blue,
the whole city began to pulse like a single heart.
Beyond the curtain, threads of light passed from tower to tower.
No sound — only the density of the air, changing.
With each breath, the world seemed to step into another layer.

Nera pulled her chair closer and sat beside Yu.
The light outside dissolved the room, merging their two shadows into one.
The moment the wind shifts always brings a faint ache, deep in the chest.
But tonight,
that ache felt somehow familiar.

Then the city held its breath.
The lights went out, one by one,
until only the blue of the spires remained.
Like light sinking to the floor of a soundless sea.

Nera kept her face toward the window
and whispered, quietly.
"…When the storm begins, let's not use words."
Yu nodded,
and their breathing quietly became one.

Outside, the light pulsed with intensity,
yet held a strange stillness.
Crystal sand drifted past.
The shadows of the spires dissolved into the night sky.
Even as every sound was lost,
the wind was unmistakably there.

In the heart of the storm,
the shadows of Yu and Nera swayed slowly across the floor.
As the whole world sank into silence,
only the wind and the light remained —
confirming, quietly, that the two of them were there.

— That was the beginning of the night the wind sleeps.
