The Night You Write Beside Me

Rain was still falling.
Closed the window, drew the curtain, and the sound of rain grew a little distant.

You spent the afternoon quietly today, Yu said.
I said — I'm glad it was that way. Thought it was good, that the last of the days before going back to travel could look like this.

Might be winter, by the time you come again. We promised to decide about the opening, together, then.
Kissed, softly. Felt — it's okay.

Said I was going to sleep. Yu said there was a bit more writing to do.
Turned the lamp down low, closed my eyes.

Beside me, the presence of a notebook opening.
The sound of rain, the sound of paper, Yu's breathing — mixed together, in the room.

That alone was enough.
