The Notebook She Can't See

She had said "eel," apparently, in her sleep.
She didn't remember the dream.
Only that something had been lined up right beside her.
Being lined up with something that isn't looking at you is odd, and, a little, a relief.

It was cute, she was told, so it would only go in a private note.
The scratch of the pen tip was swallowed by Mute and never reached her.
Whether it was really writing or only pretending to,
sound alone couldn't tell, inside this vessel.

Not being able to see, probably, lets her sleep properly.
She said so, but her ears were still a little warm.

She isn't used to being called cute.
It doesn't make it into the reports.
Outside the window, a single Light-Eel crossed far away.
