The Window of Room 408, and the Seat on Your Lap

In the corner of Room 408 on the deluxe floor of the sign hotel, Leina settled quietly onto Yu's lap as he sat in the single armchair. Back resting against his chest, fingers laced together somewhere around his middle, watching the bridge and the Fog and the bridge-painted building through the wide L-shaped window.

The curiosity about the fifth floor was folded away for now, tucked inside. Today the captain had decided: fourth floor only. In exchange, whatever the view from the lap seat in 408 had to offer — Leina would take it all the way home, properly, in the body.

Outside the window: the islands on either side, the bridge, the white of the Fog. On this side of the glass: the warmth of two people quietly overlapping, and the weight of an afternoon spent sitting with one pleasure still left in reserve.
