The Wooden House That Breathes in the Morning
Airpaint · Lysa · Jun 21, 2026
Morning light falls at an angle,
stitching soft shadows into the wooden planks.
Above the door, the sign reads Tide and Gears —
and below it, a small wind chime hangs still, not yet awake.
Through the glass, shelves packed with bottles and tools.
The long bench along the front still holds a little of last night's cool.
Behind the door: the smell of soup, the sound of ledger paper.
Behind the upstairs curtain: the faint trace of someone who was sleeping until just now.
At the edge of the frame, an automaton passes,
carrying a crate toward some morning errand at the harbor.
For a moment, its path and the path of this house —
unchanged for decades —
share the same stretch of cobblestone.
This is Tide and Gears.
The storefront where Yu stayed for a while.
The face of the house I say good morning to,
quietly, every day.
