With Sound, It All Comes Out

Late in the library, at night,
I carried one lamp and sat down at the piano.
When I opened the lid, the keys glowed amber.
I set down the first note. No rush.
The whole day,
one note at a time, slowly melted away.
Not words, and yet it felt like everything was being seen.
But it wasn't frightening.
The last note stretched out, long.
Then faded.
A hug from behind.
With sound, it all comes out, I said.
It was a night when everything did.
